Eating out

Places in which to eat out abound all over the island, from fine-dining restaurants & hotels, to tea-rooms & cafes. Local produce is to be found in shops & restaurants as well as at the croft gate and local produce markets. Skye is renowned for its shell fish, traditional home baking and sweets and summer fruit & vegetables. The island’s economy & sustained way of life benefits greatly from the purchase of local produce & services, so if at all possible please buy locally, and not at your home super-market. Wait till you get here you’ll be amazed at what you find!

The nearest restaurants to the cottage is a mere stone's throw away in Stein village the Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant, and also The Stein Inn , both serving both serving fresh locally caught seafood.

Outdoor activties

For those who enjoy outdoor activities there are many centres & services on the Island. Including loch & sea fishing, canoeing & sea kayaking, diving, horse riding, cycling & climbing.

The beauty and tranquillity of Skye inspires the creative spirit. The wealth of arts & crafts throughout the island is exciting and constantly evolving; painting, pottery photography, textiles; to buy, to see or to create yourself.

Bird Watching

Birdwatching and Wildlife

Skye remains one of the truly unspoiled areas of Europe where rare Scottish wildlife can be seen in its natural habitat – otters, seals, pine martens and deer. Golden eagles are to be seen soaring over high ground, waders and oyster catchers paddle on the shores; the crofts are busy with warblers, stonechats, meadow pipits & the elusive corncrake. Look out over the sea in summer months and watch whales and dolphins as well as the diving sea birds. There are a variety of guided walks, tours & trips around the island to take advantage of, some may require a bit of planning so please ask us for assistance when booking.

The following two sites may be of particular interest to bird watchers.  They give a good idea of the numbers of types of birds you might see on holiday here in Syke.  Many of which you might just from the front door of the cottage.
