
For those who enjoy the outdoors there are many centres & services on the Island, including loch & sea fishing, canoeing & sea kayaking, diving, boat trips, horse riding, cycling, climbing and golf. We cannot include all in this list, but below are some ideas. If we have missed something you think should be included please let us know.

Boat trips:-
Seal boat trips are operated from Dunvegan Castle. Boat trips are operated from Portree, Broadford, Staffin, Elgol and Armadale and Caledonian MacBrayne operate day trips to the Western Isles and others.
Swimming:-
There are swimming baths at Portree and Kyle of Lochalsh. Outdoor swimming should be undertaken with care as many of the shores around Skye have dangerous currents. Please check locally.
Walking:-
Given the magnificent mountain ranges on Skye it may not surprise you that Skye provides man
y options to stretch your legs! However you do not need to climb a mountain appreciate the beauty of Skye. For something gentler, the Skyewalks website www.skyewalks.co.uk has many walks listed all over the isle; details are available free. The Highland Council Countryside Ranger Service provides an interesting and varied series of walks throughout the year. Contact the local tourist information office or look here for details of countryside ranger walks

We keep a selection of walk books and maps in the cottage too, so you can set off on your own. Favourite walks in the Waternish/ Dunvegan area include Trumpan Churchyard loop, Waternish Lighthouse, The Two Churches Walk in Dunvegan, Coral Beaches, Neist Point Lighthouse, MacLeod’s Maidens and MacLeod’s Tables Mountains

Horse riding:-
For the novice to the more experienced rider, there are a number of opportunities to enjoy, particularly on the traditional Highland Ponies. Lessons also available.
Cycling:-
Although not the most forgiving of terrain, Skye’s smaller roads and forestry tracks make good cyclin
g routes. Off road there are exciting opportunities for the mountain-biker. Repairs, spares and advice can be obtained at Island cycles. A small shed at the cottage is ideal for bike storage andFairwinds Cycles will hire bikes.
Climbing:-
For over a century man ( and woman) has been challenged by The Cuillin – Skye’s famous mountain ridge. A truly thrilling and rewarding experience, for the experienced climber. For the less experienced or beginner we would recommend one of the many mountain and climbing guides contactable through Potree Tourist information centre
Golf:-
There is a 9 hole course at Sconser and also at Skeabost House Hotel.
